My least favorite thing about a job interview is how nervous I become whilst speaking with the job interviewer. When nervous, I have a tendancy to ramble but talking too much could put me in a bind. It is important to have self control, especially in a business setting.
It is a given that you should use professional language during the interview, but to be on the safe side, it would be wise to brush up on what words go into appropriate language.
Think before you speak. Isn't this what our mothers were always harping on about? Didn't they tell us to think before we speak? Well mother dearest, we were listening; whether or not we acted on what you told us, that's something else.
Why HPP? HirePower Personnel is a family owned, family run operation. As such, we believe in treating our contractors like they are a part of the big HPP family. Our contractors are not simply a name and a paystub; they are indivduals that we take great care of and invest all that we have into them. Being a private company with the ideal size, allows us to create long-term relationships with our contractors all the while pulling in the opportunities from some of the largest Oil and Gas companies in the world!
Prepare. Before going to a job fair, take a couple hours and research. Be sure to research the companies as well as the recruiters. Take a look at their websites to see what positions are available. Not only does this give you something focused to talk to the recruiter about, it lets the recruiter know just how serious you are about finding a position. Prepare to be asked the basic questions. Also, brainstorm any pertinent questions to ask the recruiter.
In the 80’s and 90’s, my father worked as a data analyst for EDS. I didn’t know what that meant, only that it involved white dress shirts, reams of dot-matrix printer paper and a computer with a tiny green screen. So maybe it’s strange that after a series of employment adventures, I too work in data analysis, only the tool I use, Tibco’s Spotfire, is like nothing my father could have imagined.
Join the HirePower staff on Saturday, February 18th from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. in the Sugar Land Town Square for a Mardi Gras themed Chili Cook-Off. This event will benefit the Fort Bend Rainbow Room.
